RE: Campgrounds in Nashville Tenn. or Branson Missouri

I live in TN and have been to the Cedars of Lebanon State Park CG often. It is one of the nicest CGs we have been to if you like shaded, wooded, private spots and not a lot of crowded action. There are 3 different CG loops: - 1 loop near a small facility building with registration, laundry, maps, etc. - 1 loop on the other side of the road from the facility building which is a bit more private - 1 loop for popups or tents with a 20-amp limit All loops have roughly 50-75 spots and their own restroom / shower building centrally located. Mixture of pull-through, side access, and back-in spots. There is a small music stage and on some weekend nights they hold free concerts there, mostly bluegrass and old country music, but they are not normally crowded and don't last long. If you leave the CG area you can explore the rest of the park which has horseback riding, baseball field, playground rides, walking trails, picnic pavillions, etc. There is also a nature center, basketball court, tennis courts, public pool, and a cave. Lots of stuff to do but the park is small and private compared to most parks. On most days the CG loops are less than 15% full but on some Saturdays they can get up to 40% full especially if the weather is nice or during a holiday. This CG is only 15 minutes from two medium cities: Murfreesboro and Lebanon. Murfreesboro is larger with many more places to eat, shop, and visit. In Lebanon you can park and catch an old-fashioned train that will take you into downtown Nashville for a day of shopping or inner-city tourism then just ride the rails back again in the evening. The train also stops in several other prominent areas along the way so you could visit a lot of places without needing to drive. One other thing: there is a pretty nice old-fashioned flea market right outside of the park every Saturday & Sunday. It has several hundred vendors which sell all sorts of stuff, mostly odds and ends pretty cheap but also some fresh fruit, veggies, and locally made food products. Nice to spend a few hours browsing there in the morning before it warms up. After touring lots of CGs in TN, we like Cedars of Lebanon as one of the best. We go there often just to walk or ride bikes. Here is the link: http://www.tennessee.gov/environment/parks/Cedars/ Excellent info! We are driving up for a visit soon. Appreciate the details.

RE: Charleston in October?

Hominy Grill is AWESOME! This is a small restaurant in an old historic home. I would beg my grandmom to take us there every time we visited Charleston. If you enjoy good Southern cooking, you will love Hominy Grill. Scout's honor. Locals love it.

RE: Ft Desoto site # 228

Russ, We've been to Ft DeSoto many times. One thing I noticed was that some of the site photos on their web site are out of date -- and the access to water may be better or may be worse (as you mentioned). Perhaps the ranger station could give you the most up-to-date info on that specific site? Wish I could offer more...

RE: My little Papillon Lucy "fer" is a thief

Sorry, but I cannot resist. Lucy and Lizzy? This is starting to sound like a TV Sitcom resembling "I Love Lucy!" "Honey, I'm home.... where's my (any item you have seen Lucy eyeing lately)"

Sounds like Lucy"fer" is trying to stock your garage shelves with all the proper tools and gadgets! Very funny story!

RE: Thanksgiving Dinner At Camp

Here is my favorite (and easy to make) pumpkin pie recipe. I got this recipe out of a Borden's recipe phamphlet called "They'll Love it" back in 1976! Peter's Pumpkin Pie Yup, I think this is a Must Bake for Thanksgiving. Nothing quite as delicious as a good ole pumpkin pie. p.s. you said refrig the left overs? What leftovers? hahaha

RE: Embarrassing situation with my cat

You mentioned meowing very loudly. My 15 year old cat does that more and more. And her eating habits change -- especially if I leave for a long weekend. My point is that like others said, our older kitties tend to have weird little quirks (medical and otherwise). Some of it is "normal." (e.g. stress is harder for older cats) Please keep us updated on how everything is going.

RE: Southeast Fuel situation

We drove 1000 miles this past weekend for a family emergency in SC. I used Cruise Control and extended my tank of gas by many miles. Just thought I'd mention it for those traveling in a car (without towing).

RE: Embarrassing situation with my cat

Just curious, did the vet run a test to see if your kitty had a bladder infection? My indoor kitty had an infection once and had similar behavior. You may need to ask for the test -- if your vet did not offer. Just my two cents. Others will answer soon for more ideas.

RE: Myakka River St.Pk, Florida ??

Come on guys notice joloote is from Florida and is well aware that gators rarely if ever bother kayakers. But there are others here who do not know this. And the word "rarely" concerns me a bit. When at Myakka this January, I will keep my distance from them. True. Often I post messages for Lurkers who may not know regional info --like how big the gators are and how folks should be aware of them. That's all. Just trying to help readers get the full picture.

RE: Another Hairball - ? ?

haha. I put the hairball gel on my kitty's paw -- thinking she would lick it off in a lady like manner ....and she promptly shook her paw vigorously and FLICKED it all over my wall. Kitty 1 Human 0

RE: Pet First Aid Kit ?

we always have a bag of temptations. can of cat food and even a container of wild bird seed which we have had to use when a small bird lost the rest of the group and was alone in a tree. the wildlife people told us he would stay there until the next flock came and if we wanted to feed himit was okay so we did everyday. he was in a safe place along the highway where nothing could get him. in a couple of weeks away he flew with the new flock. Neat story, Margie.

RE: Thanksgiving Dinner At Camp

We are camping this Thanksgiving. I like your crock pot suggestion. We do not have an inside kitchen, so we will cook and re-heat over fire pit coals or a Coleman stove or Dutch Oven. Therefore, we will use simple recipes -- and lots of alum foil for cooking packets. Can't wait!

RE: Myakka River St.Pk, Florida ??

hmmm...Soooo...There are no RV sites in Loop#1 close enough to the water to allow carrying the Kayaks to it without major effort? From what I recall, everyone put in down by the concession shop at the main parking area. Did not see anyone launch from the camping areas -- although there is water nearby. Maybe the ranger would be the best resource to ask?

RE: Doggy daycare

We were in the same boat this month -- trying to find a daycare out of state for a short visit. Almost started calling the local vets, but we found a hotel that permitted us to leave our dog in a crate for a few hours. That worked out. Hope you find a good doggie daycare.
